Client Festival of Diversity, Oldham
Project Overview I was commissioned to project manage a range of community based arts projects for The Festival of Diversity in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The aims of the projects were to encourage diverse groups to meet and work together, improve communities and encourage greater community involvement.
Project Details 2007
Gardens of shared difference

I collaborated with 4 artists to deliver a range of projects in schools and community groups to make festival dressing for Oldham Town centre. Together we worked with Age Concern LGBT group to make dressing based on flowers and gardens; a family learning group to make dressing inspired by nonsense poetry; a primary school to make dressing inspired by pick 'n mix sweets; a cubs group to make dressing inspired by diverse types of flowers; a primary school to make dressing in felt.

Installation Installed around the town centre during the day of The Festival of Diversity opening celebration. The artwork was then used at various other festivals throughout Oldham during the Summer.
Legacy To create an inspirational, carnival atmosphere to help people celebrate their community & promote diversity and tolerance.

Project Details 2008
Oldham's Owls & Gardens

I collaborated with 2 artists to create colourful festival dressing create a mood of festival fun and celebrate community togetherness within Oldham.

Project Details 2009
Sky Rise

I worked with a number of different housing associations, a charity working with homeless adults and an intergenerational group in Oldham to make kites and banners for display at the Oldham Mela and other festivals during Oldham's Festival of Diversity. We made, sledge kites, tail banners and a tetrahedral kite. I also arranged for the local kite club to attend and put on an Indian Fighter Kite display and to help members of the public fly kites.

Project Details 2010
Oldham Bloom & Grow

I project managed 3 projects to support the Horticulture department's Bloom & Grow initiative. These included:
1 Town Centre Banners. A project in partnership with the Council marketing department to launch a borough-wide competition to design a Bloom & Grow banner for installation around the town centre.
2 Mural. I commissioned an artist to work with local groups to generate ideas and images for the design of 9 large-scale banners for installation on a disused building located on a prime site near the town centre. The aim was to involve local people in improving the visual environment of the locality.
3 Remember When. This project involved an artist working with a group of seniors in a local care home with severe barriers to involvement in community activities. The project involved a number of art-based reminisence workshops to create a seeis of artworks for permanent display around the care home in order to provide stimulation and points of focus for all residents.

Installation All projects resulted in long term displays of artwork within their intended locality.
Legacy To support the Oldham Bloom & Grow initiative and encourage residents to engage with the community and other residents with different cultural backgrounds.
