Manchester Jewish Museum |
| Project Overview |
I was commissioned to deliver a project whereby Manchester Jewish Museum could welcome 3 different faith groups into the museum for a day of discovery, lectures and art activities. The theme of the project was Journeys as immigration is common to many different faith groups in this part of North Manchester. |
| Project Details |
I worked with NEESA, a group of Asian ladies; Khizra Mosque Youth group; and a group of recent Polish immigrants. During their visit to the museum they were treated to an informative talk by the museum education officer, a chance to look at the exhibits and the sysnagogue building to hopefully discover the similarities in immigration stories between the Jewish people and their particular Faith group. |
| |
I then spent a half day working with them on different art projects to capture their stories and responses to the sysnagogue building and Jewish history within the displays. |
| |
The NEESA ladies group embroidered cushions inspired by their own stories of immigration. |
| |
The Khizra Mosque Youth group responded to the symbols they learned about thorugh their lecture on Jewish practices around the home and created beautiful suncatchers. |
| |
The group of Polish immigrants made mosaic designs reflecting the religious symbols they found around the synagogue. |
| Art forms |
Fabric applique, fabric painting, glass painting, mosaic |
| Materials |
Felt, fabric, glass paints, acrylic, tiles, board. |
