Project Overview I was commissioned to work with 3 different groups to explore what personal meaning and memories the Medlock Valley has for them. The work created during this project is intended to be used by Manchester City Council in the future marketing of The Mdelock Valley. The council also empoyed a poet to work with other groups. We came together to create a touring exhibition of the completed work.
Project Details I took a group of primary school children to explore the Medlock valley, examine the flora and landscape. They took notes from the site visit in the form of drawings and written descriptions. They turned these into amazing designs which Ii made into T-shirts for them.
I worked with a young youth group to make visual concertina diaries of their memories and feelings of The Medlock Valley. They aslo worked on interpreting the map of the valley into a felt applique design.
A group of adults I worked with created a quilt to describe their memories of the Medlock valley. The quilt included detailed applique work & photo words to tell the story of their experiences.
