| Project Overview |
I was commissioned to work with 2 community groups to create 30 large-scale banners for the annual Seeds of the East festival at Philips Park, Clayton. |
| Project Details |
I delivered workshops with a community group of adults from the local housing association, and with year 9 pupils at St Peter's RC High School. Participants were free to interpret the theme of seeds, growth & regeneration, draw their own designs on paper and handpaint the fabric banners. People worked individually or in pairs. The hand painted fabric was then sewn into completed banners by myself. |
| Art forms |
Fabric painting, design on paper |
| Materials |
Rip-stop nylon, fabric paints |
| Installation |
The banners will be displayed annually at the Seeds of the East festival in August. They are also available for display at other community events in the region. |
| Legacy |
New East Manchester invested in the community to create the set of banners which will be used for many years in the future. |
