Oldham Festival of Diversity, Oldham Extended Schools |
| Project Overview |
I was commissioned to work with 8 primary schools to create a series of Welcome Sails to celebrate the cultural diversity present within each of the schools. With the schools working in pairs the sails were to act as a way of strengthening the bonds between the schools by developing closer working relationships and the sharing of a sail bewteen them. |
| Project Details |
I collaborated with 4 other artists so we could complete the project within a tight deadline to enable us to display the Welcome Sails at The Festival of Diversity events through the summer. The sails were then returned to the schools. |
| Art forms |
Design, fabric painting |
| Materials |
Rip-stop nylon, fabric paints |
| Installation |
The Sails are designed for temporary display at multiple events. They were displayed at numerous community events during the Festival of Diversity and then returned to the schools for permanent display. They were displayed at the Oldham Mela and Oldham Pride events amongst many others. |
| Legacy |
It is hoped the Sails project has fostered better working relationships between the schools' staff and pupils, developed a greater appreciation of the diversity that exists within each of the school communiities. |
