Client Manchester City Council, Planning Office
Project Overview I was commissioned to work with a Manchester city centre primary school and introduce a class of children to the buildings planning process. The work they produced was used at a city planning conference to enthuse city planners in the value of consultation with children and communities.
Project Details

I delivered 3 days of workshops with different class groups. We worked through the various stages of the planning process in a hands-on way, explored reasons why taking an interest in your built environemnt is important and showed them ways in which they could influence the outcome of new developments.

We created a 3D model of buildings representing a small part of their neighbourhood out of cardboard, road systems, a backdrop & sent poscards to the planning office expressing the children's thoughts as to how they would like their neighbourhood improved.

Art forms Fabric painting, construction, collage
Materials Acrylic paint, cardboard, canvas, recycled materials, postcards
Installation The artworks were used as part of a city planning conference
Legacy Inspired city planners who will hopefully understand the value and benifit of consultation with children and the community in the future.
